This elective is aiming to help people who are considering a startup board position, are looking for startup opportunities or are thinking about starting their own company. En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:

• The student will discover what the startup journey looks like
• The student will learn what to look for in the founding team
• How to define team dynamics and potential conflicts?
• How to identify the formal and informal roles of the board members
• How to deal with the CEO
• Demonstrate how to split shares in an early venture
• How to analyze and identify if it’s a viable business idea
• How to recognize which financing strategy is appropriate for my kind of business

Starting a new business is one of the most rewarding experiences one can imagine. The journey from an idea to a successful company is, however, paved with challenges and puts high demands on timing, technology, business and social skills. The upside, though, is tremendous in personal learning and potentially also in an economic sense. One of the defining moments of startups is often when the person with an ambition to start a company realizes that he/she needs additional skills and experiences on the team – and that this includes both the daily operational team and the board of directors.
This elective will include a mix of business theory and start-up experience based on a number of successful high-tech companies familiar to the DTU startup scene. In the elective, will help you determine if you should become a board member. And if so, how can you maximize the value you add for startups? 30. marts, 2020
