Overordnede kursusmål
A student who has participated fully in the summer school will
learn about the latest developments in microwave, lightwaves,
microwave photonics, THz photonics and electronics, and their
application to applications such as communications, imaging and
sensing.
Læringsmål
En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
- have knowledge of the fundamental principles of generation and
detection of microwave, millimeter and THz signals
- have knowledge at the general level of trend and challenges in
microwaves and lightwave technologies
- be able to point out different solution scenarios for use of
microwave and lightwave technologies
- have thorough knowledge about tools for design of microwave
devices, and lightwave guiding devices
- be able to point out the most interesting scientific problems
within microwave and THz technologies for imaging, communications
and sensing
- be able to discuss advantages and disadvantages between the use
of electronics and photonics approaches for microwave and THz
technologies
- be able to discuss using a common engineering language
solutions for microwave and THz systems from electronics and
photonics approaches
- be able to achieve a quick and concise insight of his/her own
research related to above areas
Kursusindhold
The course is composed of a total of 3 weeks: 1 week PhD summer
school and 2 weeks study load of textbook reading material with
corresponding discussion with Professors. Students will be
requested to read, at least, 5 weeks prior to the school, selected
book-chapters and state-of-the-art journals on selected topics by
the teachers. The reading material is selected in agreement with
the PhD supervisors to make the best possible preparation of the
students to participate in the Summer School and perform the
projects during the summer school. Students will meet to discuss
among themselves and with professors the reading material. An oral
exam will take place after the Summer School has taken place.
Lectures will be delivered from teachers at DTU Fotonik and DTU
Elektro and selected number of top researchers and teachers from
world-wide renown Universities; see program at website link below.

Bemærkninger
This summer School is already running for 27 years, uninterrupted:
ITN CELTA Summer School on Microwaves and Lightwave. The program
consists of about 20 lectures. Presenting the newest achievements
in microwave and optical engineering is the main aim of the
lectures. The lectures are always followed by discussions and
interactions among students and professors. During the CELTA Summer
School, students are grouped into teams of mixed nationalities. The
teams work on projects oriented to the design and modeling of
microwave and optic devices and systems. At the end of the summer
school, each team has to represent results of the project in a
poster and/or talk. In frame of the ITN CELTA summer School,
participating PhD students can give a brief overview about their
research. That way, links among young researchers are built. The
program of the ITN CELTA Summer schools includes technical and
cultural visits, which presents the organizing country to the CELTA
School participants.
