Overordnede kursusmål
The aim of the course is to introduce the culture based challenges in doing business in a developing country and approaches to investigate and understand innovation in a developed and developing country context
Læringsmål
En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
  • Describe and critically discuss different approaches to the study of innovation systems
  • Reflect upon the impact of cultural differences in running business in a developing and a developed country context.
  • Explain the main challenges between innovation in a developing country context and developed country context
  • Identify important framework conditions for different types of technology transfer models
  • Demonstrate knowledge upon the role of donor interventions to stimulate innovation in a developing country context
  • Evaluate the main elements in a business environment in a developing country context
  • Reflect upon necessary enabling framework conditions for establishing participants own business in a developing country context
  • Identify a business model suitable for the participant own business in a developing country context
Kursusindhold
This course will introduce the culture based challenges in doing business in a developing country and approaches to investigate and understand innovation in a developed and developing country context. Against this background the course will discuss the specific challenges and opportunities of transfer of technologies, local innovation and adaptation of technologies in a developing country context. In this regard the participant will be introduced to the literature on global value chains, technology innovation systems, clusters of innovation, innovation for bottom of the pyramid, etc.
The theoretical approaches introduced in the course will be illustrated by examples of innovation and technology development in developing countries based on the teacher's own interventions and research in Africa, China and South East Africa.
