Campus Lyngby
Lectures, discussion of articles, final report. For each session, the participants must prepare by reading the suggested literature and reflect on the relevance of session’s topic in relation to own research.

Evaluation of final reporting. The students must participate in all sessions and the last day make a presentation on the relevance of Technology Foresight in relation to his or her topic.

Overordnede kursusmål
The aim of the course is to introduce student to the foundation and methods of technology foresight. The focus is set on technology foresight in the settings of regional, sectoral or technological innovation systems.
Læringsmål
En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
  • Identify and describe quantitative and qualitative methods of technology foresight and their theoretical foundations.
  • Understand the societal context in which technology foresight is practised.
  • Understand foresight’s role in science, technology and innovation policy.
  • Understand the concept of innovation systems foresight.
  • Interpret and analyse the relation between context, conditions and outcomes of foresight.
  • Compare, select and apply concepts and methods of foresight, e.g. simple scenario processes, backcasting, horizon scanning, and Delphi surveys in foresight.
  • Assess and discuss the implementation of technology foresight.
  • Plan and carry out a foresight exercise.
Kursusindhold
The course involves discussions of literature, drawing on theoretical perspectives as well as practical and instrumental approaches to technology foresight and innovation systems. The course includes five days of lectures mixed with plenary discussions and individual reflection. More specifically the course will cover the following themes:
- Introduction to foresight and foresight methods.
- Introduction to core foresight concepts such as expectations, visions, trends and megatrends.
- Foresight in science, technology and innovation policy.
- Introduction to foresight methods such as: scenarios, visioning, backasting, Delphi, and horizon scanning.
- Design of foresight exercises.
- Facilitating experts and trans-disciplinarity in foresight exercises.
- Publishing in the area of foresight.
