Hvordan man kommunikerer og netværker ved møder og konferencer. Introduktion til skriveprocessen, forfatterskab og den gode historie.
Læringsmål
En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
  • Present own work, discuss own research hypothesis and give and receive constructive feed back.
  • Be familiar with basic statistic and design of experimental studies.
  • Document, handle and store scientific data in a responsible way.
  • Perform good research practice.
  • Manage a PhD project and Write a good PhD study plan.
  • Plan a research stay abroad.
  • Understand the role of networking in research and how to network at conferences.
  • Explain steps involved in writing a scientific paper, journal impact, and authorship.
Kursusindhold
The course is an intensive two-day residential course at a location outside DTU. The student needs to prepare a presentation of his/her PhD project, participate active in lectures and exercises and write a synopsis of the two-day course.

Basic concepts of statistic and experimental design will be introduced, including what programs is available and where you can get help as a PhD student at VETBIT. Responsible conduct of research in life science will be discussed including proper documentation and storage of scientific data.

Project management will be addressed and we will discuss how to write a good study plan and why this is important, including formulation of hypothesis and research questions, aims, short and long-term goals. Students will learn how to administrate a PhD project at DTU, and we will discuss dilemmas that might arise during a PhD study and touch upon supervisor relationship, self-management and work life-balance.

Participants will be introduced to the writing of scientific papers, review process, impact factors, open source, ranking, H-index, ethics in publication, and co-authorships. We will discuss other ways of communication as conference, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations and how to deal effectively with the press and media. Networking with fellow VETBIT students, the scientific community and at conferences will be questioned. PhD fellows will be invited and share experience regarding external stay, we will further discus how to plan a research stay abroad.
