Overordnede kursusmål:

To develop participants' competences in sociotechnical theory and analytical methods from the interdisciplinary field of Science and Technology Studies (STS).
Course supervision will emphasize the individual participants’ Ph.D. projects, in relation to the course’s subject matter.

Læringsmål:

En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
  • Work reflexively with one's own empirical material in the scoping and building of theory
  • Invoke theoretical insights and analytical devices in the analytical treatment of empirical material.
  • Engage research methods to identify relevant actors and frame issues under inquiry.
  • Deploy STS to address artefacts and use practices in-the-making.
  • Address processes of enrolling disparate, heterogeneous sources of knowledge.
  • Consider the present framing of research questions, and possibilities for their further qualification and development through reframing.
  • Actively engage the course contents to ongoing dissertation work.
  • Communicate analytical challenges and methodological issues pertinent to one's realm of study.

Kursusindhold:

The course addresses analytical challenges and methodological issues, focusing on Actor-Network Theory (ANT) and Social Construction of Technology (SCOT), while engaging also Domestication of Technology, ‘Post-ANT’ and the notion of Boundary Objects, in a more delimited capacity. Central to the course will be 1) working reflexively with how the empirical material plays a role in one’s scoping and building of theory; and 2) conversely, how theoretical insights help in guiding analytical work based on one’s empirical material.
