The aim of the course is to introduce PhD-students at DTU
Management to research and to some of the general challenges they
will be facing during their PhD studies. The following issues will
be addressed:
• Theory of science – science of engineering
• Methodology and tools in research
• Developing the competencies needed
• Career patterns for a PhD
This course is a mandatory course for PhD students at DTU
Management. Combined they present and train the participants for
central tasks when working in academia.

En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
Identify basic steps in scientific work..
Identify and choose basic approaches to scientific studies
Apply basic tools in scientific work .
Identify and chose among different methods in scientific
studies
Make a peer review within the field of sociotechnical
studies
Participate in establishing research strategies in light of
present discussions of research policy
Establish a carrier strategy based on a PhD study
Identify the special characteristics of engineering
science
