Relate the metabolism of industrially relevant types of
microorganisms to the corresponding biotechnological products.
Describe the basics of simple strategies for strain
improvements encompassing both classical and metabolic engineering
methods.
Select suitable medium components and design quantitatively a
medium from stoichiometric considerations.
Describe the bioreactor and auxiliary equipment and explain the
function of the various parts.
Solve standard sterilization design problems with relevance to
fermentations.
Solve fermentation kinetic problems and evaluate the
results.
Describe the interplay between bioreactor design and mass
transfer.
Design a fermentation process based on knowledge of process
kinetics and microbiology.

Remarks to type of assessment:
Written examination is to be conducted online and submitted online,
presence at the University is not needed. Exercise is to be
submitted online. Oral exam to be conducted online using skype with
web camera.The course is evaluated as a whole.
