Overordnede kursusmål:

Gaining knowledge in operation research topics in the area of liner shipping


Læringsmål:

En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
  • Review operation research literature in the area of liner shipping.
  • Identify areas of operation research within the liner shipping industry.
  • Describe recent research in the presented areas.
  • Identify ideas for future operation research areas in the liner shipping industry.
  • Gain knowledge of some solution methods to selected problems.
  • Gain general operational knowledge of the liner shipping industry.
  • Gain general knowledge of routing problems occuring in the liner shipping industry.
  • Critically evaluate different models.

Kursusindhold:

The following topics will among others be covered:
bunker fuel optimization, berth scheduling, fleet deployment,
hub and spoke network design, other network designs, inland transport to final customers, disruption management.
There will be small exercise assignments for each topic. The lectures take place during the first two weeks of the 3-week period and is ended by an short exam on the Friday of the second week.

During the 3rd week the participants will in groups of 2-3 students read a recent article in the field (articles to choose between are provided at the beginning of the course). The students are in groups asked to present the contents of the paper on the last day of the 3rd week. A 10 page review of the article and topic should be handed in Friday.
