To get familiar with the concept of recycling-oriented characterization and representative sampling, and use it when developing sampling schemes, as well as when analyzing waste sampling procedures and waste data quality.
Læringsmål:
En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
Critically assess information demand for decision making in waste management
Describe the theoretical and practical principles of representative sampling
Illustrate where uncertainty arises during sampling and explain the reasons
Apply appropriate statistical tools for characterizing uncertainty related to waste sampling
Critically analyze the operational procedure employed in waste sampling
Evaluate waste composition data quality with respect to the sampling procedure adopted
Design a campaign for representative sampling of solid waste materials and streams
Kursusindhold:
Waste is a very heterogeneous material, which requires carefully designed procedures for characterization, sampling and preparation prior to analysis in order to obtain reliable and representative data. High quality data for the physical and chemical properties of waste materials are important for determining the potentials for material recovery and energy production, as well as possible emissions from waste treatment. This course presents and discusses challenges related to waste characterization and sampling and sample preparation (particle-size reduction, mixing, and mass reduction) for chemical analysis.
The course is organized by DTU Environment and is offered in collaboration with Berlin Technical University. The course is offered in English and will take place in Berlin this autumn.
