Overordnede kursusmål:

The course objective is to let students work with a current, realistic and important water supply problem present at the Roskilde festival. Furthermore the aim is to enable the participants to evaluate possible solutions and describe this in a report to a (virtual) client/customer

Læringsmål:

En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
  • Analyse the water supply problems in real case
  • Plan and perform a field invesigation
  • Evaluate the results of the investigation using a computer model
  • Generate realistic solutions and describe their pros and cons
  • Communicate in a report the aims and problems, methodologies used and the solutions
  • Present (orallly) the results of the project

Kursusindhold:

The course is in the form of a project. In collaboration with the festival organizers, the students are supposed to identify water related engineering challenges and come up with well-argued suggestions for solutions. The project should typically contain a theoretical part, field work and eventual computer modelling. During the annual Roskilde Festival, more than 100.000 persons need enough good and clean water for drinking, sanitation and swimming. In the past, there have been problems with keeping enough pressure and thereby delivering enough drinking water and on occasion a swimming lake has been shut down because it was polluted. Roskilde Festival needs good solutions to these challenges to pursue their commitment to be a safe festival. Course participants have collected data from the festival 2010 and 2011 and this year’s course will build on that knowledge.

Bemærkninger:

In 2012 the course will focus on microbial water quality of e.g. drinking water, water for showering or for recreational purpose such as swimming.
The course duration is 3 weeks. The participants are expected to spend 1-2 days in May preparing for the course, approximately 2 weeks in June, and finally 3-4 days after the festival to complete the report.
