Overordnede kursusmål:
This course is aimed at graduate students interested in structural and functional ceramic materials. The overall goals of the course are to: 1) develop an understanding of the mechanisms of sintering; models and sintering equations; densification; grain growth 2) expose the student to the key challenges and approaches in the modeling of the sintering process, and 3) formulate and discuss a variety of approaches to control the microstructure ceramic components.
Læringsmål:
En studerende, der fuldt ud har opfyldt kursets mål, vil kunne:
Understand the evolution of microstructures and shape of multi-component system.
Apply knowledge for the analysis of sintering
Improve communication and presentation skills
Kursusindhold:
Sintering of multi-material and multi-layered systems and effect of stress in sintering (constrained sintering, hot-pressing). Evolution and control of microstructure during sintering processes. Sintering of nanostructured materials. Novel sintering techniques - field assisted sintering (spark-plasma, microwave, etc.). Overview of Macro-scale / continuum modeling of sintering (SOVS, MSC, RS, ...). Overview of Microscopic / meso-scale modeling of sintering (KMC, ...). Overview of Multi-scale modeling of sintering.
