At introducere de studerende til et nyt tvær-disiplinært tema inden for den moderne molekylære mikrobiologi, biomedicin og bioteknologi, samt at lære dem at forstå og vurdere den tilhørende litteratur.
Kursusindhold:
Modern molecular techniques have revolutionized the fields of microbiology, biotechnology, microbial ecology and microbial pathogenesis and have to a large extend effaced the traditional barriers between these disciplines. The present course will cover these developments and focus on the impact within industrial and biomedical applications. The following themes will be covered by the course: New developments in functional genomics (from bioinformatics to studies of global gene expression); molecular pathogenesis; vaccine technology and other prophylactic approaches; opportunistic pathogens, their ecology and infection potentials; the biofilm mode of growth in relation to persistent infections; cell to cell signaling and examples of new approaches in “state of the art” antibacterial drug design.
